NEWBERRY — Ron Vigus, CEO of Newberry County Memorial Hospital, recently accepted the position of regional vice president for Quorum Health Resources and will be resigning from his current position at the end of September. Quorum Health Resources is a company that manages hospitals across the country.
Although he will not longer be working for NCMH, Vigus said he’ll continue to help them any way he can.
Making the decision to take another job wasn’t easy, Vigus said.
“I love living here and working with this hospital, but my wife and I found a place closer to our families,” Vigus said.
The promotion will move Vigus and his wife, Joyce, to Nashville, Tenn. Together, the two have family in Louisville, Ky., Memphis, and other nearby areas, which Vigus said is the closest they will have been to their families in years.
“It was a wonderful opportunity from a family perspective,” Vigus said.
As regional vice president for QHR, Vigus will be responsible for eight to 10 hospitals in the Pacific Northwest area. He will help the boards of these hospitals as well as CEOs to continue their strategic plans for their hospitals.
Vigus feels he will excel in the position because of his 30-plus years of experience with hospitals as well as the positive improvements he’s been able to oversee at NCMH.
“This is an opportunity for me to share what I’ve learned with these hospitals so that can they continue to serve their communities,” Vigus said.
Some of the accomplishments that NCMH has made under Vigus’ time as CEO since 2009 include being in the top 10 percent nationally for quality patient care, the successful recruitment of a general surgeon and family practice physician, and the modernization of the emergency department, front entrance, and third floor.
The board will begin the search for a permanent CEO. An interim CEO will be appointed until the permanent position is filled.
Vigus said NCMH is a wonderful place with a wonderful future, and he is thankful for his time working with the staff and community of Newberry.
“I wish it the best,” Vigus said. “And I will continue to help them do anything I can to be successful even going into this new role.”
