Y’all come: Time for family fun at Wightman UMC
by Elyssa Parnell Staff Writer
PROSPERITY — Wightman United Methodist Church, 302 N. Main St., will host a community Fall Family Fellowship event from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Sept. 8 at the walking track beside the church.
The free event will include hot dogs, snow cones, inflatable rides for children, and live music from the church praise band.
Missy Roach, a member of Wightman, helped organize the event along with Pastor Dean Lollis. Roach said that a similar event had been done at the closing of Vacation Bible School this summer and had been a big success for all involved.
“The popular opinion was that we needed to have one of these events every year,” Roach said. “I think it will be a great kick off of our new Sunday School class groups and new year with the church.”
Lollis believes that with vacations winding down this time of year and school being back in session, it was a great time to have fun and celebrate this time of year together.
“Over the past year, we’ve hosted a Halloween event and a Vacation Bible School closing on the walking track,” Lollis said. “Those events were great opportunities to spend time with our church family, the community, our neighbors and friends.”
Roach feels that hosting community events such as these are the biggest tools to utilize the walking track space beside their church.
“It’s a great way to get the community together and to fellowship together,” Roach said.
Lollis says the only thing the community will need to bring other than themselves is a chair to relax outside in.
“I love events where we can move the church outside the building and spend time with our neighbors and friends,” Lollis said. “This event is just about having fun and getting to say hello to our neighbors. It’s a chance to have some fun together, to eat together, and, maybe, even to jump up and down in bouncy houses together.”
