POMARIA —The body of the missing swimmer in Heller’s Creek near Pomaria was recovered at 4:30 p.m. by divers from Newberry and Union Counties and Department of Natural Resources.
The body was located a short distance from where he went missing. The Newberry County Coroner’s Office will release the victim’s identity once family members are notified and an autopsy is performed.
The victim was reported missing around 1:30 p.m. due to a possible drowning incident at the creek on the Broad River Road. The victim was swimming with family members according to the sheriff’s office.
Along with divers and DNR, the Newberry County Sheriff’s Office, rescue squads and water rescue also responded to the scene.
