NEWBERRY — The Newberry County School District was recognized at the Aug. 26 school board meeting for the historical preservation of Little Mountain Elementary School.
On June 11, the School District of Newberry County and McMillan Pazdan Smith attended the 2013 Historic Preservation Awards ceremony at the S.C. State House.
The awards are sponsored by the Palmetto Trust for Historic Preservation, the S.C. Department of Archives and History and the Office of the Governor. The Historic Preservation Awards recognize exceptional accomplishments in the preservation, rehabilitation, and interpretation of South Carolina’s architectural and cultural heritage.
The School District of Newberry County’s Little Mountain Elementary School project was one of only five honor sward projects and the only school preservation award presented for the state.
Donnie Love from McMillan Pazdan Smith was the chief architect for the Little Mountain Elementary School project.
The plaque reads: S.C. Historic Preservation 2013 Honor Award, School District of Newberry County for Renovation of Little Mountain Elementary School in Newberry County Presented by the Honorable Nikki R. Haley, Governor of South Carolina.
