First Young Professionals Social is a success

NEWBERRY — The first Newberry Young Professionals Social was a success Monday evening with approximately 65 people in attendance, according to Michelle Long with the Newberry County Chamber of Commerce. The social was held at Half Full Coffee and Wine downtown.
The event, sponsored Monday by the City of Newberry, was for young people ages 21-39 who live or work in Newberry.
“It was ideally just getting people together who have something in common as far as being in the Newberry area,” Long said.
Long said she was very pleased with the event’s turnout.
“Our goal was 50 people, and we were very pleased to have exceeded that,” she said.
As for where the young professionals group will go from here, Long says they have an infinite number of possibilities. The Newberry County Chamber of Commerce was asked to get it started, but Long says the group might decide to continue with more social events, maybe have quarterly events, or even form sub-committees and get involved in projects within the town.
Long says she plans on sending out a brief survey to those that were in attendance Monday to receive their feedback from the event, gage their interest, and what they see for the future of the group.
No events have been planned for the future as of yet, but Long says they hope the group will continue to meet each month, or at six week periods.
