First Young Professionals Social set for Monday

NEWBERRY — The first Newberry County Young Professional Social will be held August 26 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Half Full Coffee and Wine, 1402 Main St.
Coming from Cultivating Community forum earlier this Spring, a recurring statement in the county is that there is nothing for young adults to do, which leads to the sentiment there is no reason for younger professionals to live in Newberry, even if they work here.
A young professional can be described as a person within the age range of 21 to 39 who lives or works in Newberry County.
Brainstorming and looking into other towns, the group realized a number of towns have young professionals groups that meet on a regular basis.
Mayor Foster Senn approached the Newberry County Chamber of Commerce about the possibility of initiating an event for young professionals in the community.
“If we want Newberry County to be a place where young professionals want to live, we must first know who they are and how they can become involved in creating a community that appeals to multiple generations,” said Michelle Long with the Newberry Chamber of Commerce.
“I think it will be a good way for young people to meet other young people in the community,” Senn said.
The young professionals event is being sponsored by the City of Newberry, but future sponsors will be needed. Anyone interested in additional information on getting involved or becoming a sponsor may contact Michelle Long at the Newberry County Chamber of Commerce at 803-276-4274 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
