PROSPERITY — Completing two out of their three team goals this season, the Mid-Carolina High School tennis team went 12-0 this season, taking no prisoners.

With this season being only the sixth season of having a Mid-Carolina tennis team, Coach Kenny Sanders said he’s exceptionally proud of his team.

Beginning their season in September, Sanders said one of their toughest matches was on the road against Saluda.

“It’s a tough place to play,” Sanders said. “They’re intimidating to our younger girls.”

Although Sanders said the fans might have outnumbered MC’s “10 to 1,” he was pleased with how the team responded.

“They knew they had a match on their hands, and responded accordingly,” Sanders said.

Against Saluda, the team won 4-3 on the road, and again 6-1, against Saluda at home.

Sanders said what he feels made this team unique above the rest was their no-quit, never give up attitude.

“Our leadership and our depth really showed up this year,” Sanders said.

As a team, Sanders said they had three goals starting off the season. The first two goals were to win their conference for the first time in school history, and to try to go undefeated in their region.

Accomplishing both of those goals, their last goal was to make it to the upperstate playoffs, which they will not know until completing the playoff games.

The playoff games begin Oct. 31, with Mid-Carolina hosting the games. Sanders said this is the first time the team has ever hosted the playoff games, but they won’t know where they stand in the playoffs until a meeting is held on Oct. 30.

Senior tennis player Emily Livingston was happy to finish out her senior year with such a good record as a team.

“I think we had a winning season because we have a good coach who puts in a lot of time with us,” Livingston said. “We had good leadership and a positive attitude as a team.”
