NEWBERRY —Work began last week on downtown intersections. Main Street was closed to traffic between Caldwell Street and Wilson street so intersections at College and Main streets and Lindsay and Main streets could be milled and repaved.
Most intersections are now open, with the intersection of Calhoun and Main streets to be open on Monday, May 26.
Assistant City Manager Matt DeWitt said the reason that this intersection has taken longer than the others is because a cement crosswalk is being set up. The other two crosswalks were asphalt, DeWitt said.
Citizens should be cautioned DeWitt said that beginning June 9, all three intersections will be closed once again so that they can be restamped and colored.
“It should only take one day per intersection,” DeWitt said.
