NEWBERRY — This morning widespread power outages affected the City of Newberry and the Town of Prosperity.
Power was restored as of 9:56 a.m.
According to the Newberry County Sheriff’s Office, the problem appears to be a power grid issue.
Crews are working to determine cause and make repairs.
According to Assistant City Manager Matt DeWitt, the issue was with a high side breaker on the Duke Power system. He said it could be up to a three-hour delay.
The power outage meant traffic lights in many places also were out.
Everyone must stop and then use the intersection just like all way stops. Approach intersections and proceed with caution.
Sheriff Lee Foster said officers tried to direct traffic, but also had to answer emergency calls.
“Consideration and cooperation are a must. Intersections with traffic lights that are out are considered the same as all way stops. DO NOT go through the intersection without first coming to a complete stop,” he said.
