The following incidents were reported by Newberry City Police:
— Shaka Walker, 26, of 492 Edwards Road in Carlisle, along with Alicia Woodard, 39, of 20 Blue Rock Lane in Blair, and Derricia Bates, 20, of 2701 Possum Branch Road in Blair, were charged with shoplifting and conspiracy to shoplift on July 8. A reporting officer responded to Walmart in reference to shoplifters. The complainant told the officer that the three females all took and concealed merchandise on their person and in their handbags. Walker, Woodward, and Bates had paid for a cart full of groceries and other items. Each took miscellaneous types of makeup and cosmetic merchandise.
— Anthony Williams, 51, of 830 Floyd St., Newberry, was charged with driving under the influence on July 9 after there was a report of an intoxicated driver near the intersection of Nance and Johnstone streets. When officers approached Williams, the officer smelled alcohol on him. Williams had a blood alcohol content of .22 percent.
— Terry Chaplin, 19, of 1105 Marion St., Newberry, and Andrew Chaplin, 21, of 86 Bradbury Way in Newberry, were charged with drug/narcotic violations and drug equipment violations on July 10 after an officer stopped a 1993 Chevy Lumina near the intersection of Nance and Cornelia streets for a seatbelt violation. A set of digital scales and a bag containing two Crown Royal bags, plastic baggies, a grinder with green residue, and a tobacco pipe with burnt green residue were found in the vehicle. Two plastic baggies containing a green leafy material were found floating in a cup of tea in the center console. Andrew Chaplin told the officer the marijuana and the contents of the black bag were his. Terry Chaplin was arrested for driving under suspension, seat belt violation, and possession of a suspended driver’s license. Andrew Chaplin was charged with simple possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and seat belt violation.
