NEWBERRY — A Newberry man was charged with financial transaction card fraud on June 11 after he allegedly withdrew a large sum of money from bank accounts using automatic teller machines, according to a report from the Newberry County Sheriff’s Office.

According to the report, Bruce Alexander Hutcherson, 29, of 386 Winding Jolly Road, withdrew approximately $12,000 during May from accounts at Quorum Federal Credit Union. The complainant told investigators that Hutcherson has a credit account and savings account with the institution.

The complainant and Quorum Federal Credit Union provided documents that showed Hutcherson had a negative account and continued to withdraw money from ATMs with the knowledge of not having any credit.

Hutcherson told officers he thought someone was putting more money into his account each time he got money out. He indicated he was willing to work out an agreement to pay the money back. The complainant agreed and offered Hutcherson the option to pay $4,000 up front and then pay $130 per week.

He was given until May 29 to respond. On June 5, the complainant told officers Hutcherson refused to contact them about the offer and they wanted to prosecute.

The Sheriff’s Office also reported the following:

• Pettis Seth Chick, 24, of 926 Cline Street, Newberry, was charged with simple possession of marijuana on June 14. The Sheriff’s Office assisted the S.C. Highway Patrol with a wreck on Little Pine Way in Prosperity. After several field sobriety tests, Chick was placed under arrest by the SCHP for driving under the influence. Officers could smell a strong odor of marijuana coming from Chick’s overturned vehicle. Officers found a baggy containing marijuana that Chick admitted was his.

Officers received a complaint that Longshore was harassing people at the laundromat on Kendall Road. Upon arrival, Longshore was standing in the parking lot and was unsteady on his feet.
