NEWBERRY COUNTY — Brian Bernard Smith of the Newberry County Sheriff’s Office graduated Aug. 5 from the S.C. Criminal Justice Academy after completing a 12-week Basic Law Enforcement Training Program term.

Smith is now a Class I Certified S.C. Law Enforcement Officer. He was a member of Class #651.

A lifelong resident of Newberry County, Smith began working with the Newberry County Sheriff’s Office as a Corrections Officer with the Newberry County Detention Center in August 2014.

He is a 2011 graduate of Newberry High School where he also completed certification in Law, Public Safety, & Security. Smith is the son of Brian B. Smith and Sheila Bates, both of Newberry.
