LITTLE MOUNTAIN — Movies in the Park will come to an end this Friday when Little Mountain presents Zootopia in Reunion Park for free. The movie will begin around 8:30 p.m.
“Our Movies in the Park have been very successful. We have been very pleased and surprised by the large turnout,” Mayor Jana Jayroe said.
For the past two Movies in the Park, Jayroe conducted a Facebook poll to see what movie would be selected. This time the movie company, Southern Outdoor Cinema, only gave the town two options.
“So we decided to flip a coin, since our timeline was a little shorter with the Fourth of July holiday,” Jayroe said.
According to imdb.com, the winner of the coin toss, Zootopia, involves a city of anthropomorphic animals, where a rookie bunny cop and a cynical con artist fox must work together to uncover a conspiracy.
During the movie there will once again be free popcorn and water, for as long as they last. The forecast for this Friday calls for a chance of thunderstorms, and high temperatures.
“We will have fans running in the picnic shelter as before. Everyone needs to drink plenty of water and wear cool clothing. We are hoping for a breeze,” Jayroe said.
The sponsors for this movie night will be GR Shealy’s Citigo, Little Mountain Unlimited, Transfer Point Dietary Supplement Company, Mike Remion Forestry Service and Travis Goodman of Thrivent Financial.
“The movie nights help the town by promoting goodwill in our community. The movie nights also help to identify the town as its own community with its own character,” Jayroe said.
Jayroe is hoping for a turnout of around 300 people, which is what the turnout has been during the past movies. She also hopes that the Movies in the Park will become a new summer tradition for Little Mountain.
“I have been very pleased and excited by the size of the audience and the happy comments from our community. Town Council has also been very pleased,” she said.
