NEWBERRY — During May, the South Carolina Campaign to Prevent Teen Pregnancy (SC Campaign) is calling special attention to the issue of teen pregnancy in South Carolina with multiple events planned throughout the month including a host of roundtable discussions, volunteer opportunities, and fundraising events.

May is nationally recognized as Teen Pregnancy Prevention Month, and in South Carolina there is much to celebrate. Since the early 90s, the teen birth rate in South Carolina has fallen by 54 percent — a remarkable decline and one of the state’s greatest success stories.

While success should be celebrated, it must not be confused with victory as the state still boasts the 12th highest teen birth rate in the nation.
