NEWBERRY — The Newberry Opera House will host local talent this weekend from the Newberry Community Players as they present a musical written by Dolly Parton this weekend.

The musical version of the 1980 film “9 to 5” was a fan favorite from its first production. The local community players are having a blast getting ready for the production.

Three women — an overworked office manager, a jilted wife and an objectified secretary — conspire to oust their smarmy boss and begin making woman-friendly changes in the workplace.

The musical will be performed June 19 at 8 p.m. and June 20 at 3 p.m. and 8 p.m. Tickets are $25 plus fees. Groups of 15 or more can get tickets for $19 plus fees. Call the Newberry Opera House Box Office for more information or tickets 803-276-6264 or buy online at www.newberryoperahouse.com.

Attending the Friday opening night production of 9 to 5? Come downtown early for A Taste of Newberry.

Local restaurants and vendors will be selling bite-size tastes of their cuisine around Memorial Park and Community Hall during A Taste of Newberry from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. June 19. The Newberry College Jazz Combo will play live in Memorial Park.
