NEWBERRY — The Newberry Community Players Young Players will present The Merry Wives of Windsor this weekend at the Ritz Theater.

Merry Wives is one of Shakespeare’s most light hearted comedies centered around his favorite themes of love, trickery and foolishness. Performances will be Nov. 13 and Nov. 14 at 8 p.m. and Nov. 15 at 3 p.m. Tickets can be purchased through the Newberry Opera House at 276-6264 or purchased at the door. Group rates are available.

This is the fifth season that the Young Players have brought Shakespeare to life on the Ritz Stage. They begin work in August and rehearse four days a week to capture the delight that is William Shakespeare. As with most comedies, true love has obstacles to overcome, jealousies to be soothed and a little bit of greed to defeat.

The Young Players troupe is open to anyone between the ages of 13 to 18 and to home-schooled students as well as public or private school students. The program helps young people to build confidence as well as a real sense of working as a team toward a common goal.
