NEWBERRY — Reuben Elementary first, second, fourth and fifth graders visited the Center for Teacher Education at Speers Street for the annual Social Studies Fair on Nov. 20.

First graders learned about laws, authority figures, respect and rights for others, public officials and the election process. Second graders learned about the features of urban, suburban, and rural areas, the different types of laws and the people who enforce them, law enforcement and public safety officials. Fourth graders learned about the contributions of abolitionists, President Abraham Lincoln and the Emancipation Proclamation. Fifth graders learned about the New Deal, Civilian Conservation Corps, the FDIC, the Securities and Exchange Commission and NATO.

During the fair, students were able to learn about laws, rights and the election process.
