NEWBERRY — The Newberry Soil and Water Conservation District is bringing back its movie night on June 23 at 8:30 p.m. at Setzler Farms, 3241 College St. in Newberry. The movie will be “The Ivy League Farmer.”

The plot of the 2015 film is as follows, according to imdb.com: “After graduating from Harvard and landing his dream job on Wall Street, 23 year-old Joel Gilbert returns to the heartland to spend one final summer at home on his family’s dairy farm. While there, he quickly learns that the three-generation family farm is in trouble. Using the skills he gained with his Ivy League degree, Joel is now faced with the difficult task of confronting his strong-willed father and convincing the proud man to take the ultimate risk to save the farm. Joel also has another unexpected problem – he’s falling in love with the girl of his dreams in the small town in which he grew up.”

Danielle Himsey, district coordinator with the NSWCD, said this is a family oriented movie.

“I wanted to pick this particular film because one of my friends is in it, Tuesday Beebe. It is also about a dairy farm. Newberry is big with dairy and agriculture is a big deal in Newberry. It is a big business in our county,” she said. “This is free to everyone, you do not have to be a member, but becoming a member is always encouraged, everyone can come and have fun.”

The movie night will also go to support the Newberry Future Farmers Association, which will be selling concessions that night and directing traffic. Every penny they raise will go directly to the FFA, the NSWCD will not take anything from them.

“I do not know what they will be selling, but I do know they will not have anything peanuts, because of peanut allergies,” she said. “Please do not bring any outside food or drinks, because we really want to support the FFA. This also includes alcohol. This is a family friendly event.”

FunFlicks Columbia will be providing the jumbo screen for the movie night, and Himsey said that there will be room for everyone.

“I suggest bringing chairs and blankets because we are going to be sitting in a hay field, or you can back your truck up and you can sit on the tailgate. We have room for everybody,” Himsey said. “There is no need to RSVP, just come out and have fun.”

Himsey chose to do the movie night again because they had a good turn out during the last one two years ago. She also received positive feedback from those who attended.

“Last time we had 64 people or so. I am wanting to have 64 people again, but I would like to have even more because we can accommodate any number of people who come,” she said.

The movie will begin at 8:30 p.m. Himsey recommends guests arrive around 8-8:15 p.m., the gates will be open at 7:45 p.m. If the weather does not permit holding the movie night, it will be rescheduled to next week.
