NEWBERRY — Grab your blankets and your popcorn, Newberry! The city of Newberry will hold its back to school Moonlight Movie Night on Friday in Memorial Park.

Scott Sawyer, director of Parks, Recreation and Tourism for the city, said the movie will be Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2 and the showing will begin around 8:30 p.m. Admission is free. The movie is rate PG.

In the movie, Paul Blart has a well-deserved vacation after six years of keeping the malls safe. He heads to Vegas with his teenage daughter before she heads off to college. But safety never takes a holiday and when duty calls, Blart answers.

Sawyer said they use the website pluggedin.com, Focus on the Family’s website, to check reviews for movies to make sure each one chosen is appropriate for the viewing audience.

The website gave the movie four out of five plugs, meaning it was good, he said. Sawyer said the movie was also rated an 11 out of 10 on the funny meter.

Sarah Dougherty of Newberry said she was looking forward to attending on Friday.

“It’s always nice to be surrounded by the great people in our community who come together and enjoy these family friendly events,” Dougherty said. “When I heard it was under the stars in Memorial Park and Mall Cop 2, I wrote it on my calendar.”

Dougherty said it was no doubt a recipe for a fun, successful evening.

Seating is general admission and no tickets are distributed in advance. Plan to arrive early, as seating capacity is limited.
