NEWBERRY — This fall Newberry Elementary School students experienced living history thanks to a dramatic presentation by Dr. Rich Davis. He performed as Benjamin Franklin, giving students a presentation and then quizzing them afterwards.

“We were fortunate to have this presentation. Benjamin Franklin was such an influential figure in American History, so this covers several teaching standards,” said NES fifth grade teacher Mary Blackwell. “He was a founding father of our country, a diplomat and an inventor.”

Titled “The Magic of Reading,” the presentation discussed 3 E’s of Education, Explore and Expert.

“Those themes were intertwined with biographical information about Ben Franklin,” Blackwell said. “He was engaging had lots of audience participation from the students, from answering question, recalling facts, and demonstrating experiments.”

Students used their 21st Century learning skills of reflective listening, integrity and accountability as they participated in the interactive presentation.
