NEWBERRY COUNTY — Newberry County 4-H hosted the SC 4-H Midlands Region Healthy Lifestyles Competition in September. Teams from three Midlands counties participated, with a total of nine teams competing.

Six youth from Newberry represented Newberry County, two in the Junior Division (grades 6-8) and four in the Senior Division (grades 9-12).

Newberry’s Junior Team finished fourth and the Senior Team, the Super Chefs, finished third. The Super Chefs went on to compete at the state competition, held Oct. 15 at the SC State Fair.

Team members Ady Ashmore, Claire Wooten, Elsie Sheppard, and Evelyn Sheppard brought home a third place finish after preparing a chicken and broccoli dish in under an hour and presenting a seven-minute presentation.
