A company that began three decades ago in a backyard in Silverstreet was voted as the best plumbing company in the county for the past three years.

Hazel Plumbing began in 1975 in Chuck Hazel’s backyard, and the company moved to Newberry in 1978. For years Hazel Plumbing and Heating and Air was one business but eventually split apart.

Several years ago Chuck Hazel retired and passed the business on to his son and daughter-in-law, Scott and Janesca Hazel.

Scott Hazel admits that many of his days as a youth were spent working with his father. Hazel adds that his son, Sloan, will soon be 10 and will also start having chores associated with the family business.

The company specialized in new, remodeling and repairs of commercial and residential plumbing.

Hazel Plumbing also provides personal service and let’s customers know their door is always open. “We are also starting to set up displays in our office for people to see,” said Janesca Hazel.

While Scott Hazel adds he has older plumbing parts that you can no longer buy in other stores.

The Hazels attribute their success to good employees and good customers.

“We have a number of longtime employees and supportive customers. Our employees are good, hard working men,” said Scott Hazel, who is also a Silverstreet councilman.

The company recently added another truck to its fleet increase customer service.

“We have people available,” said Hazel, explaining that they try and take care of a customer in as speedy of a fashion as possible.

Scott Hazel said he is trying to continue the level of service his father started and maintain the business’s reputation.
