LITTLE MOUNTAIN — After two years without a reunion, the Little Mountain Reunion Association is bringing back the annual event this weekend.
The Association had multiple roadblocks preventing the reunion for the last two years, but that has all changed, thanks to support from the community.
“This year the new mayor (Jana Jayroe) contacted the association and started the process of getting the reunion started again,” said Woody Kaminer, member of the Association.
Kaminer said an issue presented itself when they wanted to sell alcohol and but some town officials were against it. The Association also suffered a blow when it lost its nonprofit status a few years ago.
“Due to a mix up with the IRS, we lost our non-profit status, but the town is sponsoring the reunion this year as a non-profit,” said Kaminer.
After a year and a half battle in court with the IRS, the Association got its non-profit status back last year.
Before these events took place, the reunion had been the longest running annual event in Little Mountain.
Now that the reunion is back in action, the Little Mountain Reunion Association has planed a multitude of events for the whole family to enjoy.
One event of note will be the 5k and 10k races that will take place Saturday morning. The races are in memory of Glenn Shealy, who died six weeks ago in an accident. Other events include, a variety of music performances, helicopter rides, a parade (which will include T-shirts being dropped from helicopters), kids activities and a car show.
Multiple rescue squads teams will be on location for the races, and for the helicopter rides, if the need for assistance arises.
Admission is free and there will be beverages and food for sale. Coolers will not be permitted.
