Events planned upcoming for Newberry Chamber

NEWBERRY — The Newberry County Chamber of Commerce has many events planned for the upcoming spring and summer season.

On Thursday, May 8, there will be a Lunch ‘N Learn from 12 noon until 1 p.m. at the Chamber of Commerce/Visitor’s Center sponsored by Agape Senior. Barry James will talk about the Four Myths of Caring for a Senior. Reservations are required and can be made by contacting the Chamber. The cost is $6 per person.

Also on May 8 is the Business After Hours event from 5:30-7:00 p.m. that will be sponsored by and hosted at Holiday Inn Express and Suites, located between I-26 and the Newberry Industrial Park. All current and prospective members are welcome. Food and beverages will be provided.

Upcoming Community Events

A Social Media for Small Business Workshop will be held Thursday, May 15 from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. at the Newberry Firehouse Conference Center. Presented by Melissa Patton of Team Social, this is a free event sponsored by the Newberry Small Business Development Center, the City of Newberry, Team Social, and the Newberry County Chamber of Commerce. From this workshop, there will be subsequent, more specialized workshops scheduled to target the interests and needs of the attendees.

The Chamber will sponsor a spring garden and art tour. The event will feature the beauty of four private gardens, the Wells Japanese Garden, and Carter and Holmes Orchids during the hours of 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. Local artists will also be present to showcase their talents. Tickets are $15 per person and can be purchased at the Chamber and Newberry Opera House. Downtown restaurants are offering 10 percent off to ticket holders of the event.

On Thursday, June 5 from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. there will be a Newberry County job fair at the Newberry campus of Piedmont Technical College. If your business is accepting applications and hiring within the third quarter of 2014, please contact 803-276-9000 or 803-276-4274 to sign up.

The Chamber Golf Tournament is scheduled for Monday, September 22 at the Country Club of Newberry. Shotgun start is at 12 p.m. Sponsorships will be available and door prizes are requested. More information is forthcoming.
