Gates running for Newberry Electric Cooperative board

NEWBERRY — Timard “Tim” Gates has announced he is running for a position on the Newberry Electric Cooperative board of trustees. The election will be held on April 23 at Mid-Carolina Middle School.


Gates is a retired educator, having spent 34 years as a science teacher, guidance counselor, administrator, coach and athletic director at B.T. Washington, C.A. Johnson and Lower Richland high schools in Columbia, and Camden High School in Kershaw. Gates also was an assistant basketball coach at S.C. State University and head basketball coach at Allen University.


Gates is an active member of Spring Hill AME Church in Lexington. He is also active in many community and professional organizations including CBM Cares Mentoring, SCSU S.T.A.T.E. Club, Allen University 1000 Plus Club, and community beautification projects.
