Whitmire community ‘gets physical’

Whitmire community members gathered around the registration table early Saturday morning to register for the town’s first wellness walk.


Wendy Green, along with children Addie, Kingston and Raegan participated in Whitmire’s wellness walk. Wendy considered herself a new runner, although her daughters have participated in several similar events.


Todd Johnson spoke to participants on the importance of not only keeping their physical bodies fit, but their spiritual bodies as well.


Angie Faulkenburg with NCMH helped lead warm up exercises for participants Saturday morning before the walk began.


Young children as well as adults came out to show their support to Whitmire’s first wellness walk.


Thomas’ Grill set up a booth providing fresh and healthy food options and demonstrations for participants.


Fannie Hunter gets her blood pressure checked at Newberry Hospital’s booth Saturday morning.


There were three different distance lengths available for participants to choose based on ability level.


Friends used the wellness walk not only as a way to get in shape, but to catch up as well.
