Wolves fall in team national rankings

EDMOND, Okla. — The Newberry Wolves gained one more individual in the national rankings, but fell one spot to No. 4 in the poll released Wednesday by the Division II Wrestling Coaches Association.


The Wolves’ nationally ranked individual contingent is led by heavyweight Matt Wade, who is ranked No. 2 in his class with a record of 30-4, with a 19-2 in-division record.


Holding steady at No. 3 in the 141 pound weight class is senior B.J. Young. He also has a record of 30-4, with a mark of 21-1 against Division II wrestlers.


At 125 pounds, Jeff Vesta moves down one spot to No. 7 in his class. He has a record of 24-8 overall and a 16-4 record against Division II wrestlers.


Jumping back into the rankings at 197 pounds is Joey Grisko at No. 8 nationally. He has a 14-3 overall record with an 8-1 in-division record.


Notre Dame (Ohio) is still ranked No. 1 nationally, followed by Nebraska-Kearney. St. Cloud State jumps Newberry into third and Central Oklahoma rounds out the top five.
