YMCA wants to keep Newberry healthy

NEWBERRY — The Newberry County Family YMCA is continuing its efforts to promote healthy lifestyles within the community. As the New Year begins, resolutions to lose weight and get healthy are in the forefront of everyone’s mind.

The YMCA can help on that path to fitness whether it’s working out individually or with a group of people to help achieve one’s fitness goals, the Newberry County Family YMCA has the fitness equipment.

Their goal is to not only be a fitness facility but to build relationships with their members by providing opportunities for youth development, healthy lifestyles and social responsibility.

During January, the joiner’s fee for each membership category will be waived. Categories of membership offered are for family, individual adult, senior (age 62), senior couple, college, and youth. Membership fees can be paid for one year or by monthly bank draft with no contract required.

All memberships include access to the fitness room, basketball gym with an indoor walking track, sauna, steam room, whirlpool and aquatic facility. There are group classes such as Zumba, Spin, Cardio Circuit, Yoga, Aerobics, and Water Aerobics which are included with your membership at no extra charge. Group classes are offered at various times during the week.

Members with young children can take advantage of child watch that is offered free of charge Monday through Thursday from 4-8:30 p.m. and Friday from 4-7 p.m. There is a quality after school care program that follows the HEPA guidelines for healthy snacks and activities. During the after school program kids are given time to do homework, have a healthy snack, engage in enrichment and physical activities as led by retired Newberry County teacher, Lisa Richardson.
