Goldens celebrate their ‘Golden Anniversary’

SPARTANBURG — Mr. and Mrs. James Leonard “Whimp” Golden (formerly Inez Pritchard) of Spartanburg were married Dec. 15,1963 in Savannah, Ga. They will be celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary on Sunday, Dec. 15, 2013.

They were married at First Baptist Church in Port Wentworth, Ga., by the late Rev. George Benet Shealy (uncle of the groom).

Inez graduated from Gramling High School in Gramling, S.C., in 1952 and attended Cecil’s Business College in Spartanburg. She was Executive Assistant to the President Glenn Whitesides at Newberry College and retired from the Spartanburg Regional Healthcare Foundation in Spartanburg.

Jim (Leonard - “Whimp”) graduated from Newberry High School in 1952 and Wofford College in Spartanburg in 1956. He served a tour of duty with the U.S. Army in the Pacific (Hawaii). His professional career took him from Savannah, Ga., to Wilmington, N.C., back to Newberry and served as manager, district leader with Spartan Food Systems in Spartanburg and retired in 1995 as Procurement Manager for all of Hardee’s and Quincy’s Restaurants with Flagstar Inc.
