PROSPERITY — Prosperity kicks off the Christmas season with its Shopper’s Walk on Saturday in downtown.
The event starts at 5:30 p.m. and officially ends at 8:30 p.m., said Prosperity Town Administrator Karen Livingston. All the stores and restaurants will be open.
“This is just a great kick off to the holiday spirit and lots of fun with plenty of door prizes,” said Livingston, adding this is one of her favorite events for the town.
The town and the Prosperity Business Association collaborate to pull off the event for the community. Also, all the businesses participate.
Luminaries will line the streets thanks to the Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts.
Beginning at 5:30 p.m., the Mid-Carolina High School chorus will serenade the crowd before the tree is lit. The chorus is hosted by the Ministerial Association.
Other carolers will be walking around downtown singing Christmas songs and the Men of Faith and Glory Tabernacle choir will perform.
From 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Prosperity Depot, Santa Claus will be available for photos with children. Livingston said Ted Williams is taking photos that will be made available on a CD. The charge will be $5 unless a coupon from the Spooktacular event is presented.
A coloring contest is being held at First Citizens Bank and businesses also have their own drawings. The Prosperity Business Association will have a drawing for a $100 gift card in the depot at 8:30 p.m.
The Christmas spirit won’t end Saturday: The Prosperity Christmas parade is at 3 p.m. Sunday.
