A Franklin Forest Elementary School teacher died Monday from injuries she sustained after a fall on Thanksgiving at her home.

Michelle Woody, 39, was pronounced dead at Grady Health System in Atlanta by Coroner Jeff Cook Monday afternoon. Woody had suffered major head trauma, which Cook said was her cause of death. She had been on life support.

Police and EMS had responded to the home on Sylvan Drive about 3 a.m. Nov. 28, where the unconscious Woody, 39, was laying at the bottom of steps to a basement with apparent head injuries. She was taken by helicopter to Grady Health System in Atlanta, according to a police report.

The Facebook page “Prayers for Woody” was created Nov. 29 by friend Kesha Edwards and had more than 1,400 followers this morning.

“They told is today that my sweet mama is gone, and the life support is keeping her alive,” daughter Nicole Woody wrote Saturday in a post to the Facebook page. “We have to decide when to cut it off. I never thought I’d be in this position. I love my mama, and this is shattering my world. I am heart broken. Please pray. We need peace.”
