Veterans Day golf tournament a success

November 25, 2013

On behalf of the 103 golfers that participated in the 28th Annual Educator’s Veterans’ Day Golf Tournament held at the Country Club of Newberry on Veterans Day, we would like to say a special thank you to the merchants and residents of Newberry for supporting our event. A special thanks goes to Stokes-Trainer and Hedgepath Outdoor Equipment. As always, the staff at the Country Club of Newberry provided great service and outstanding weather.

The purpose of this tournament is to recognize the service to our nation by our veterans. For the last fifteen years, proceeds from this tournament have been donated to veterans and military related activities or to relief efforts after national disasters. In the past, donations have been made to the World War II Memorial, the D-Day Memorial, the South Carolina Historic Aviation Foundation, Blue Star Mothers, various American Red Cross Chapters, and local veterans’ memorials.

Funds raised at this year’s tournament will be donated to the Columbia Chapter of the United Service Organization (USO), which is located at the Columbia Metro Airport. The Columbia USO Chapter welcomes all members of the military traveling to and from Columbia. The USO provides a place to get a snack, watch television, play video games, receive assistance, or just a place to relax before a departing flight.

We would like to encourage anyone reading this to consider helping the USO. For more information about the Columbia Chapter of the USO, call 803-822-7953. Our military will appreciate your support. Thank you.
