Oktoberfest coming downtown soon

September 30, 2013

NEWBERRY — The City of Newberry is excited to announce that the 13th annual Newberry Oktoberfest will be held on October 5. Visitors from around the Southeast and locals will come for arts and crafts, marionette shows, kids rides, delicious German cuisine, live music, and more. All of the exciting activities will kick off at 10 a.m.

This year’s main stage entertainers include the 3 Dot Polka Band, Codi Lester, the Caribbean Cowboys, Toni Spearman of the SC Blues Hall of Fame, Bulldog Bluegrass with Jim LeBlanc, and Stillhouse. The main stage will be located adjacent to Newberry’s Memorial Park in front of the historic Newberry Opera House.

Be sure to check out the expanded Biergarten in front of the Newberry Opera House sponsored by the Newberry Opera House Guild. It will feature a wide variety of lagers, ales, and more from around the globe. The Biergarten will be open to serve patrons until 6 p.m.

Visitors to the festival will notice the aroma of delicious German cuisine and southern classics from the food court surrounding Community Hall, the highlight of the German festival. Also between 1:30-4:00 p.m., catch a live cooking show at our culinary stage within the food court, and learn how to make your own German themed dishes at home.

Come and enjoy this annual tradition in Newberry, South Carolina. Newberry Oktoberfest is only one hour from Greenville and Spartanburg and 30 minutes from Columbia. Be sure to wear your favorite lederhosen and dirndl as we celebrate Newberry’s German Hertiage.
