NEWBERRY — This summer, three Newberry Academy students had the chance to participate in the Junior Civitan International Convention in Charlotte, N.C., to represent part of the South Carolina district.

Sean Blanton, Amanda Crayne, and Rachel Buzhardt, all seniors, participated in the event on June 20-23.

The students learned about how to be better leaders and were also given instruction about the jobs that they would be doing throughout the year for their club and district. The students heard from an inspirational speaker who encouraged the Junior Civitans to seize important opportunities.

Amanda Crayne said, “The experience was life-changing. It was so cool to meet people from all across North America.”

On Saturday, Club President Rachel Buzhardt voted on new changes and new international officers for the upcoming year. Sean Blanton was elected Junior Civitan International Vice President.

The students also got to visit Carowinds and the Nascar Hall of Fame while on the trip.

Overall, the three 2013 attendees had a great time at the conference and recommend going to anyone who is interested in attending next year in Franklin, Tenn., on June 14-17.
