September 1, 2013

PROSPERITY — Francis “Fritz” John Wecker Sr., 72, of 149 Wessinger Road, Prosperity, went to be with the Lord on Aug. 26, 2013, after a seven year battle with cancer. Fritz was born on July 30, 1941, in Olpe, Kan. A graduate of St. Joseph High School, he joined the military, Army branch, and made his way to Fort Stewart, Ga. He previously worked for South Carolina Electric and Gas during the construction of the V. C. Summer Nuclear Station and recently retired from Wecker Carpentry.

He is survived by one daughter, Rhonda W. Ruff, of Pomaria; four sons: Michael W. Wecker (Barbara) of St. Matthews, Steven C. Wecker (Donna) of Lawrenceburg, Ky., Francis J. Wecker Jr., of Sneedville, Tenn., and Michael Wecker (Sabine) of Carmel Valley, Calif. Also, one sister, Marian Hamman of Yates Center, Kan., and two brothers: Leo Wecker of Eagle Rock, Mo., and Harold Wecker of Sacramento, Calif. He is survived by six grandchildren, Meagen, Joseph, Jonathan, Alex, Arianne and Maia; three great-grandchildren, Mariah, Isabella and Whitley Jo, and two more on the way. He was predeceased by his parents, Harold and Katherine Wecker, a sister, Mary W. Rathka, and brother, Glenn Wecker.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date because he chose to donate his body to the USC School of Medicine. Being an avid Clemson fan, his grandson, Joseph, donned him with his favorite Clemson jersey. We know he was grinning ear to ear when he arrived at USC Monday night.

Our family wishes to extend our sincere gratitude to the Hospice Care of Tri County for their dedicated and loving service. Please make desired memorials to Hospice Care of Tri County, 1379 C.R. Koon Highway, Newberry, SC 29108, or St. Matthews Lutheran Church, Pomaria, SC 29126.
